International Travelling.... Preparation

Before even booking your flights, check your passports.  How many times are we told this.  Now how often do we ignore this?  You don't?  Well I did!

Spring cleaning day 4: Living areas

I apologise for the delay in day 4 post if you have been cleaning along with me.  As Alexander had taken ill and was home for a day and my duties for the funeral being pushed back, it had put my entire schedule out of sync.   However.  As today is the last day before the Easter holiday begins, and my 10 year old will be having a guest over for a sleepover, today is my last attempt to get things done.  There will be a separate day 5 and 6 post although I aim to complete the three days in one!  Wish this supermum luck!

International Travelling.... Looking forward to the sun!

Ready to go get that Vitamin D!!

It is so cold here in London that I'm bursting with the thought of long hot sunny days in my up coming trip to Barbados.

International Travelling.... And so it begins!

This is the first time I'll be travelling on a plane with all four of our boys.  Our last plane adventure was when boy number 3 was around 4 months old.  He slept the whole way there and back; utter bliss.

When we booked the flights I was so excited, as not only was this the first time returning to my ancestral home since my wedding 4 years ago, but the first hot family holiday in almost two years, our last being St John Du Monte, South West France; a fantastic holiday, but that's for another post!

Cooking with Alexander; Caribbean Chicken Soup

It's here! An ode to our upcoming Caribbean break and the chilly change in weather!!  4 year old Alexander cooks another of his favourite meals, Caribbean Chicken soup with his most favourite dumplings!!!

Spring Clean Day 3: Hallways

Day 3 already!  We are halfway through.  Everyone goes back to nursery, school, college and work on a Monday at my house, so it is easier for me to tackle the hallway.

Spring Clean Day 2: Bathroom

As we will be doing this on a Sunday I think it's only fair that the day's job is relatively small.  Continuing on the start at the top and work our way down theme, my next room to clean is the often the smallest in the house, the bathroom.  I generally follow my bathroom cleaning checklist with a couple of extras.

Spring Cleaning Day 1: Bedrooms

Okura Hotel Amsterdam

As promised here is post number 1, starting your spring clean.

I always believe in starting at the top and working your way down, so, on day 1 we start in the bedrooms.  As we are starting on a Saturday everyone is home so help is at hand.  This Saturday my children have a birthday party to go to so a lot will need to be done before midday!  I aim to start at 9am.

When is the right time to potty train and what do I do?

Number 3 son in 2009

Working with children under 5 for almost two decades and raising 4 children of my own, I've seen many a transition from dependable nappies to independent pants.  I've been asked the question
"when do I start training my child?"
When indeed.  Like absolutely everything else I always say
"it depends on the child"

Busy mom collapses on a sandy beach in Barbados

My past two weeks have been manically busy and the next two weeks are looking to follow suit.  I am naturally hyperactive, possibly even have ADHD, so the everyday bustle of being a mum doesn't really affect me, hence the need to add 'stuff'.  But these 4 weeks are a challenge even for me.

Baileys Chocolate cake

I know this has been a long awaited recipe, I apologise for my tardiness, I totally forgot to post  this!!
This rich chocolaty cake has quite a kick as I replaced the coffee with more Baileys!  It was a huge hit at 'The baby's 1st Birthday Brunch'.  Adults only of course!  We served it with cream whipped with more Baileys!
